Country Manager Navin B. describes the unique engineering culture thriving within Marvell India as stemming from its ingrained diversity. “Marvell India thrives on a blend of backgrounds – diverse regions, ethnicities, skill levels, languages, and gender. And while all of Marvell India is geographically apart from corporate headquarters in California, this leads to even more nurturing of collaboration.”
Navin notes, however, that nearly 25 percent of the world's fabless design engineers are in India, a key factor in having Marvell's large Design Center there. He adds, “When we talk to candidates about why Marvell India, we highlight first, that we’re enabling the silicon data infrastructure of the future, and secondly, that we are located in the middle of a tech hub which includes our customers and partners, and we take great pride in that.”
Marvell's India Design Center spans four sites – in Bangalore, Pune, Hyderabad, and Chennai, each unique in scale and character – yet collectively contributing to the richness of Marvell's diversity. The Bangalore site is the largest with over 1,000 employees.
Vijay C., a senior engineering leader at Marvell, describes diversity as a valuable asset for problem-solving. “India – with its unique cultural diversity plus the academic diversity across east, west, north, and south – gives us the opportunity to pull together a talent pool with strong technical expertise and the motivation to work on the latest technology, which is moving from Cloud, 5G, Auto, and Data Infrastructure, to more specifically, Accelerated Computing.”
Vijay says Marvell India also skews young and eager for continuous growth. "A lot of them need continuous help, mentoring, or motivation," and highlights Marvell’s commitment to providing opportunities for engineers to leverage their skills, and to make an impact on product development.
Cultural Celebrations at Marvell India
Marvell India's culture is also distinct in its celebrations yet aligns with our global culture as we celebrate what is unique and special about each of our employees. It's not just about marking milestones. Beyond work, Marvell India embraces an array of employee clubs, from photography to sports, art, books, and traditional festive events, such as Diwali and New Year’s.
It's a workplace where 'work' and 'play' are seamlessly intertwined. Says Navin “Marvell is very focused on two important things – technology and people. So, we get together to ensure that we celebrate our technology and then we similarly celebrate our people. Whether it's a technical conference, an innovation week, a security week, a compliance week, or a career week, these are just some of the reasons why we get together and celebrate.”
He adds that over time, co-workers become an integral part of each other’s lives, sharing common interests, bonding through work experiences, and learning about each other’s families. Sometimes we are lucky enough to also realize a shared passion. More than 100 co-workers in India have discovered their mutual enthusiasm to be amateur photographers. Known as the “Marvellens,” this photography club has grown in popularity and offers multiple group outings. Employees from Bangalore, Hyderabad, and Pune organize photo walks as an opportunity to bond as a team and capture the beauty of their surroundings.
Marvell also provides India employees with ample opportunities to volunteer. For example, they teamed up with MagicBus to empower 2,500 children from underprivileged backgrounds with the tools and education to rise above poverty. From cooking in the Akshayapatra Kitchen to the Goonj premises, our employees have shown that corporate social responsibility is a passion.
Marvell CONNECT: Where Technology and People Converge
A shining example of this focus on both technology and people is the Marvell CONNECT Conference, an annual engineering event transcending its focus on technology to become a celebration of all things Marvell. The conference not only showcases innovation and problem solving in Engineering but across all functions, including HR, Finance, IT, and Sales. This transparency fosters both insight into what others are doing as well as shared learning.
Hundreds of volunteers invest months preparing, ensuring a day of learning, networking, and fun, for the more than 1,000 people who attend. Associate VP Gaurav J., who managed the technology booths, said he felt more connected to Marvell because of his involvement. “We still managed our daily job and didn’t let the ball drop in any way. We didn’t have to be motivated or pushed into doing it.”
Marvell India also extends its influence beyond its sites, participating in outreach programs with university campuses, government organizations, and industry associations. In shaping the broader technology landscape, Marvell plays a pivotal role, influencing policies for both the semiconductor and technology industries.
Positioned as a beacon of innovation and growth, Marvell India reflects on its journey. As Navin notes, "From the internet era to the mobile era, evolving into the cloud era, and now transitioning into an AI era, technology's rapid growth demands our constant involvement, and we've been integral to that swift pace of innovation."
